What makes a company earn their income? Easy: Sales. And who buys? Easy: Clients. So what is the most important think for an organization?. Easy: to Retain its clients and to win new ones. All of this is pretty obvious and basic, yet, most organizations do not behave as if they are aware of these simple facts. They behave instead as if the organization itself was the most important thing. And an organization is not an end but a tool, a lever to keep clients happy and to widen the client base.
The management of most organizations spend more than 50% of their time reporting or receiving reports. Endless internal meetings, business reviews and presentations where routine, showing off power and control are the common denominators and not how to deliver better products and services.
A leader will spend more than 50% of his or her time working on Sales, figuring out ways of delivering outstanding experiences and value to its clients. And because he sets the example, the organization will follow the leader’s and will be a client oriented and not an organization focused company.
Exactly same thing happens in the governments. Once elected, they look inwards and realize that if they want to hold the government beyond the next election they have to content their party apparatus, the lobbies that helped them and so on. That’s why, most politicians are not leaders. A leader must know who are the clients. And they are no one else than the citizens. A leader must do the best for them all. The immense and temporary power he or she held has been trusted by those citizens. Nobody says that to lead is easy, but i do believe that to govern what is best for the people is the best way to stay in power beyond next elections.
